The Effect of Feed Processing and Feed Form on Animal Performance

Feed was first pelleted in the US in the early 1900’s. All commercial broilers & turkeys are fed feed that has been pelleted, a process which has not really changed much over these many years. In fact, the exact economic benefit may not be well defined. Feed mills exist today as part of all integrated operations, and are thought of as a necessary, major cost center. Most have worked hard to reduce the cost of feed manufacturing. Unfortunately, this has resulted in cost cutting measures that perhaps have not resulted in the best quality feed. What is well known is that quality of feed and of animal production, it is crucial that an effort be made to pellet feed most economically.
